Simply Southern Seafood Since 1983
The Original Oyster House restaurant first opened its doors in Gulf Shores in 1983. Our restaurant on the Causeway, overlooking Mobile Bay, opened in 1985. Since then we have proudly served the Gulf Coast the best seafood in a casual atmosphere with genuine southern hospitality.

Romantic Restaurant Dining at the Original Oyster House

If you’re visiting Mobile Bay and the Alabama Gulf Coast with your loved one, you’ve already discovered one of the most scenic and romantic areas of the American South. Now you just need to make a date at a romantic restaurant that captures the region’s intimate charm and warm hospitality. That’s where the Original Oyster House comes in.

With romantic restaurant locations in Mobile and Gulf Shores, the Original Oyster House is conveniently-placed for vacation-goers and locals alike. Whether you’re just starting out in a relationship or celebrating many years together, our staff would like to invite you to our dining room for a special night out.

Fresh Seafood and Southern Dishes with Someone Special

With fresh seafood, comfort food, and homemade desserts always on the menu, the Original Oyster House provides couples with exceptional date night meals at an affordable price. Visit our romantic restaurant in Gulf Shores or Mobile-both share the same commitment to an excellent dining experience.

Start your date by sharing an authentic Gulf Coast appetizer, such as fried alligator bites, crab claws, or barbecue butter shrimp-or opt for two cups of our seafood gumbo. We make the gumbo daily using fresh crabmeat, flounder, and shrimp simmered in a rich, dark roux.

Order a couple glasses of wine to pair with your main course. (A tart sauvignon blanc will go well with raw oysters on the half shell, and you can always ask your server for additional recommendations.) If you and your significant other aren’t fans of wine, you could also enjoy a couple of cold beers or specialty cocktails, such as Jane’s Southern Julep and Mary Lou’s Perfect Margarita.

For the entrée, it’s hard to go wrong with anything on our extensive menu. The shell-shocked sampler-which comes with Gulf oysters cooked a variety of ways — Barbecue Butter Baked, Parmesan Garlic, and Joe and Dave’s Favorite Oysters-is a good place to start. Don’t forget to try some classic Southern sides, like our famous cheese grits or our house recipe turnip greens. And be sure to leave room for dessert-our creamy chocolate chip and peanut butter pie is the perfect way to end a meal with someone you care about. We’ll bring you two forks and a slice that’s big enough to share.

Come for the Food, Stay for the View and the Service

The food is an essential part of a dinner date, but we’d like to think a restaurant’s ambience and service are equally important to setting the perfect tone. Visit either of our locations and you’ll be able to enjoy spectacular waterfront views while you eat-our romantic restaurant in Mobile overlooks Mobile Bay, and our equally romantic restaurant in Gulf Shores overlooks a placid inland waterway.

Both locations also employ attentive staff members who are committed to making you and your loved one feel at home. Southern hospitality matters to us, and we believe it goes a long way when you visit us for a special evening.

Don’t hesitate to come see us the next time you’re looking for a romantic restaurant in Mobile or Gulf Shores. We are happy to make your date night one to remember.
