Continuing its tradition, the Original Oyster House restaurants & Geez Louise Boutique closed the Sunday after Labor Day on September 11, 2016, for its 29th Annual Employee Appreciation Picnic. Employees of the Original Oyster House and Geez Louise Boutique and their immediate families were treated to a family day at Waterville USA in Gulf Shores, Ala.

This year’s picnic was full of surprises. Along with door prizes donated by Buffalo Rock, Carmike Cinemas, Wild Native, Alabama Paddlesports, Waterville, the Factory, Geez Louise Boutique, Colonial Life and Zebra Marketing, there were (five) $500 drawings for perfect-attendance, a delicious lunch, Waterville USA adventure and a team-building Human Foosball Tournament. Sheila Hare, Superb Foods/Original Oyster House human resource manager, implemented a reward incentive for employees who strove for perfect attendance. After one month of perfect attendance, staff would receive lunch. As the months increased, the incentives grew bigger until the $500 drawing of employees with perfect attendance for four months consecutively or greater. The winners of $500 are Karen Payton of Geez Louise Boutique, Gulf Shores, Lindsey McNeil and Michael Huskey of the Original Oyster House, Gulf Shores and Roderick Marks and Gaynell Ducote of the Original Oyster House, Mobile.

The inaugural Gulf Shores versus Mobile Causeway Human Foosball Tournament included 14 teams, coached by corresponding managers, who competed for the finals in single elimination games. Tom Brady of the Mobile Causeway, coached by John Braswell, claimed the Olympic gold oyster medal, while Breaking Glass and Taking Names, coached by April Glass, also of the Mobile Causeway took silver. The Gulf Shores Bud-n-hammers, coached by Bud Morris, came up short in the finals but managed a bronze oyster medal.
