Generic Drugs Save You Money

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama knows that in today's economy every penny is important. That is why our Pharmacy Benefit Management area is making every effort to heighten awareness about the value of generic drugs. Beginning July 1, a campaign was launched to engage our members on cost awareness and educate them on the fact that generics are just as effective as the brand name equivalent. While there is no medical reason why a member should use generic over name brand, the cost savings encourage regular refills. When members pay less for their medications, they are more inclined to refill their maintenance prescriptions in a timely manner. This helps to better manage their associated condition.
